We need an entire billion of years to even have a universe that could possibly, possibly foster life. But that doesn't mean the ingredients are all in the same place at the same time,. They're in the universe, kind of floating around, but they're not neat, little, like pots where you're cooking life up. How long does it take for a solar system to form?
