The argument can be defended within the modern scientific age. The existence of inertia is not a fundamental problem for the argument, though it raises special considerations. This form of argumentation is for Aquinas only a very embryonic beginning for thinking metaphysically about God. It needs to be complemented by a number of other later considerations.
