The Importance of Hands Up in Questioning

I find hands up quite interesting because sometimes I'll go for hands up and actually give them a bit of time. And it's quite interesting that then some students do start to put their hands up as well. So I think like you say, I think a mix of different strategies is important when it comes to question. Would you also say it depends on the purpose? For example, if you're doing a retrieval task, you might do the mini whiteboards because it involves everyone. But if it was more discussion-based, asking for opinions and ideas, that would be more appropriate for hands up so that the purpose is important.
