The Match Women's Union Strike
The women marched to Parliament and this is where people are so shocked to see these poor girls out of their area that they get shouted at, you know, can't stop in the street. They tell them about Fosse-Jour and the MPs are impressed that they're so intelligent and so eloquent. The match women had won their fight. It wasn't an easy battle, but it showed what was possible when the working women of the East End stood together and stood up for themselves. But Mary Driscoll's story was far from over and as we'll soon see, the threats of Jack the Ripper was headed toward the match women.
