The Importance of Inference in Indian Philosophy

The Niiya school recognized inference as a source of knowledge or pramana. Charvaka adopts a critical response to this theory, but it is not clear how radical that was. The trickier question is whether they reject the use of inferences based on sense perception under certain circumstances. Later commentators in the Charvaka tradition adopted a latter view.
