We have this idea of the Victorians as very prim and proper, very prudish almost. And I think a lot of that also will come from the dominant discourse of the time which tends to be at middle class in particular. So it's easy to think about the Victorian periods, everybody being the sort of rigid and set patterns and social structures. But that isn't quite fully true when you take into account the broad range of different cultures and peoples that lived in England at time.
