The United States was attacked by what seemed to be these very irrational people. And actually, we didn't even want to think of them as people. The fear of death is often related to that in the sense that nobody wants to die when they're defending their territory. When you do that, and there's sort of this dehumanization process that happens, it makes it much easier to say "we've got to go in and route them out"
