The Dobbs ruling is based on a claim about the nature of the nation's history and traditions. The tone of it is so extraordinary, extraordinarily self-satisfied. And I think cruel, that there's a kind of snoring that infects the majority verdict. It's like public schoolboys barrequying each other in the debating hall. Winning the point is what it's about,. rather than gaining a better understanding of people's lives even in the past or now.
