Is the Darma Related to Social Justice?

i'm passionate on spiritual practices, i think there's a real misunderstanding that spiritual practices about calming ourselves down. It certainly has that capacity, but not by avoiding reality. It's really by opening our entire heart and bein bravely to reality. And why wouldn't it naturally extend to the wider society? When we see different ways that in our wider society that people are either being violated or denied their rights due to their their sexual orientation, or gender identity, or their race or religion - doesn't the darma guide us as best we can with that reality too?
