Rajan Menon: How ready is Europe for America to extricate itself in the politically implausible scenario that that happens sometime soon? Would there need to be a phase out period as they procure new weapons systems and become more independent? Daniel DePitris: I don't see this happening, but I think unless the narrative in the United States changes on this, it will never happen. The one event that could call into question the continued relevance of NATO would be if Russia were to break up.
