Comfort as a value may not always match up with what we take to be comfortable. And i know what they may may have regarded as comfortable should be regarded in their contexts and how they understand it. One of the most oft a asited a no things to desire in the observing chair by nineteenth century onomers was comfort. So for us it may not look very comfortable. But that's besides the point. What's really the point here is identifying us a comfort as a value for the nineteenth century astronomers, who themselves were actually spending the money, spending the time to design these chairs for themselves.
