The Problems of War Are Greater Than the Problems of Peace
There's very little we can cite as Northern armies going south getting involved. The Starks of the era from AC1 to AC129 largely stayed out of affairs in the south. Nina says it's also just a major undertaking. If the south fights a war that's one year long, the North takes months just to get its armies together. And then they have to march all the way down. It's not like they're right there.
