Niaya's Theory of Debate

Niaya competes with Buddhists not only on the epistemological front by refuting skeptical arguments. The elimination of suffering, promised by Buddhists and Nayayikas alike, is one more objective that can be achieved through knowledge alone. As this little bit of dialectic reminds us, in Indian philosophy it was never enough to be right. You had to prove that your opponents were wrong.
