I think oftentimes when it's not working for us, and I know I'm guilty of this myself, it's because we're trying to use the lesson or the practice as a hammer to break up whatever's in your mind that is disturbing your peace. As we repeat the idea, we're turning a light on but we have to nurture that light so it actually comes on and dispel the darkness. It's easy to think that the workbook is just a bunch of affirmations that we kind of mindlessly repeat to make ourselves feel better. But in fact, the lessons really contain a kind of a rationale for why you would feel better. And it's our job as we repeat them
