Trujillo rechristened the capital Ciudad Trujillo. He also changed the name of Duarte Peak to Trujillo Peak. At 10,128 feet, this apex in the Dominican Cordillera is central is the Caribbean's highest mountain. His ruling strategy was focused on simultaneously humiliating old elites and turning himself into a figure of almost deified respect among the peasantry.
