Pope John Paul II's Trip to Poland in 1979
CNN's John Defterios says the papal trip to Africa is not high on U.S. news outlets' priority list. But he points out that Pope Francis made a point in 1979 when he went to Poland and said, "You are not who they say you are" The pope was talking about how extractive capitalism takes resources from places such as DRC without enriching people there like we would if it were our iPhone mine or rarer mineral mine. That lesson applies to all of the global powers today, Defterios writes.
