How Do You Teach Critical Thinking?
Academically adrift tracked the academic gains of 23 hundred students at 24 four year colleges and universities. It found that during the first two years of school, forty five % of students didn't demonstrate any significant improvement in critical thinking or other higher level skills. The authors say the main reason for this is, quote, lack of rigor. Teachers aren't assigning enough work and students aren't do enough studying.
