Hume's Footnote on Race
Hume had not traveled to Brazil or the Caribbean, where most slaves from West African coast ended up. So it's not an all clear where he might have gotten his ideas from. Rousseau has huge numbers of views about native peoples in other lands but never went further than Switzerland. But I've not seen anything indicating that Hume's view of blacks was based on these accounts.
