The Great Retain

The russians were under supplied, under equipped and totally unprepared for this. The german high command concluded that their western front against the french and british was an unbreakable stale mate. In may 19 15, they began a massive offensive, which caught the russian army off guard. And there are stories from these battles about how the second wave of troops would be sent out into a battle unarmed. They were simply instructed to pick up the rifle of somebody else who had died already. This is horrifying stuff."
