Sabelius - The Last Movement

Sabelius is setting us up with all these unresolved expectations, and he resolves all of them with a thrilling last movement. The rest of the orchestra responds with a malarian and passionate lyng the first truly sad moment of the movement right near the end. And after all that, the winds take over with a gentle and peaceful little kota, ending with a whisper. Without any real reflection on those two scary interruptionsthis is a tough movement for listeners of the time and for listeners now,. But actually, i think that isn't totally true. Sure, harmonically, not much happens, except for those brass interruptions. That doesn't mean there isn't a narrative here.
