McDonnell Douglas and McDonald's

McDonnell Douglas used to be a large aerospace corporation and defense contractor. Their workforce had expanded 10, 20, 50 fold because they had all these military contracts. And so when World War II ended, the US didn't need all this shit anymore. But you couldn't shrink a company. You couldn't downsize. That just didn't happen. So they had to try and maintain that wartime size in peacetime. They're really heavily into like military stuff. The slogan is "The first free man in space"
