Hittite Iron Working

Hittite iron working involved the use of reducing agents such as carbon, which would prevent the iron from turning into rust and bring down the melting point. It is this experts that allowed the hittites to master iron working and advance their metalurgical science. This may be even giveng them the edge over neighbouring societies, but at least allowing them to produce attractive objects for trading purposes. Iron was simply stronger and more reliable for a longer period of time. Hittite farmers would use iron ploughs, which would be tougher and more able to turn over tougher soils more effectively. Their oreginal predecessors, the hattians, were closely linked to mesopotamian societies.
