The Importance of Liberal Order
I wouldn't say that it was ever less significant. I think it was the organizing principle for much of the world during the entire Cold War period. As it happened though, just as the book was written, edited, ready to go to press, Russia invaded Ukraine and that led me and my editor to decide that something had to be added about Russia and Ukraine. And it's now at the beginning of the book as a note to readers, that 10-page little essay. But if you think about that phenomenon, that recent event, which is still playing out, it provides a pretty good sense of what's important about liberal order.
