The Big Crunch and Dark Matter

There used to be a theory of the big crunch. But I think now they say the universe is still expanding faster because of dark matter. If dark energy is very strong, then the universe can continue to expand forever. One potential scenario is that it spans until all of the energy in the universe is too distributed for there to be any movement or any heat. That's called the Big Freeze. Another option is that the expansion will continue to speed up and it will get so strong that everything gets ripped apart. Most scientists right now would agree that the Big Freeze is the most realistic scenario.
