The History of the East Indian Company
The time it takes to travel from Britain to India in those days is equivalent to how long it would take Elon Musk to get to Mars. The East Indian Company behaved moderately well by their standards and didn't go around doing many massacres. In the 1740s, they began importing military techniques from early 18th century Europe where there had just been two enormous wars. And this led to a period of about 30 years when both the English and French companies realized that they can more or less do what they like.
