The Decline of Tribalism in America

The tribalism that we are engaged in as Americans now is a degraded version of the communitarian lives that were much more a part of the everyday American experience than they are now. There's a certain kind of social richness that people had with voluntary associations, things that have been compromised over the last 30, 40 years. Nothing has come to take their place except for political parties and the general sorting of people into ideological camps.
