China's Demographic Decline Compared to Other Countries?
China goes from what they call an aging to an aged society in about a 25-year period. That same transition in the United States took about 70 years and in France took about 110 years. The speed of things is one really important thing in China where it's at a disadvantage compared to countries that aged earlier than it did. If you think about the peak working age population in the U.S., compare the income level of China to when it reached its peak working age share, that was about a quarter of the income levels of the US.
