The Unreliable Narrator
There's such a sharp stylistic break in those last couple scenes that I think that's probably the the insinuation. The fact that he's a writer and that we kind of see him writing the story at the end introduces this sort of like element of him potentially being an unreliable narrator. Ben could have just taken him from Hamie and like you know be lying about it but boil as a cat is a weird character anyway because he's like yes half imaginary, maybe one of the more Miracami ask elements of the story.
