The Curious Clinicians
00:00
Furosemide Is Not a Direct Venodilator
Furosemide is not a direct venodilator, but in terms of how it may impact prostaglandins, it turns out furosemide can directly increase prostaglandin release from endothelial cells. This was actually studied in cultured bovine aortic cells in the 90s. The exact mechanism is not clearly defined, but there's some recent evidence that it may actually inhibit prostaglandon dehydrogenase,. So they're just more of it around and it's not getting broken down.
