How to Tell a Flatterer From a Friend
Friends are incredibly important to our individual happiness and well being for various reasons. The biggest value that friends ave to us, as far as plutarch sees it, is that they can be honest with us. Who else can we actually rely on to call us out when we're lying to ourselves or acting like an idiot somewhere? Strangers? Yes, they might do it sometimes, but can we really rely on them for that? I mean, most strangers just mind their own bus and go on about their day. Weg too much is at stake to rely on your enemies for anything, and your enemies don't have your best interest in mind.
