With technology today, I don't know that people write many rough drafts anymore. A key thing is what message are you getting across and write it, writes that to yourself across the top. And if you actually sit down and hand write a rough draft or type out a rough, type out a Rough Draft and then print it out, that might help you realize who your audience is and who you're talking to as again.
