The Negative Aspects of Ancient Greece
The ability for some small fraction of the people to really develop themselves and devote themselves to ideas may have been a consequence from the fact that you had a very unequal distribution of resources in the society. We should be very careful to condemn some of these peak intellectual societies of the past for certain negative aspects as we define them today. If one group decides to give up technology, well, I would just say they're probably done for. In that situation, the one that gives up advanced weaponry might just cease to exist as an independent entity.
