How to Write a Cold Open
In the best case scenario, what we will do is write a cold open that is what we call a standalone comedy cold open. That could be something like the Boyce to Men song or the Diane Wiest infection and Terry has a... The longest pause in television. It's ever been silent for that long. Or Terry having a tarantula on his head. Those are all things that we're standalone. But then sometimes we'll have ones that are, we write purposefully to throw the plot forward. So it's like a big plot element and we feel like it's a big throw.
