Nixon was the statesman of the party at that time. He knew barry goldwater was going to lose, so he put all his chips on backing goldwater. Nixon went out there, he campaigned newt harder than gold water. I mean, everybody else ran for the hills. But that was what richard nixon was all about. He had a strategy, and he executed it well.
