Writing by Women in Japan - What's the Connection?
"I was reading a lot of writing by women, where horror kind of seeps into literary fiction," says Sophie Okonedo. "There are a lot of issues when it comes to gender inequality in Japan and I think women do process that through writing." The genre has always been associated with women, whether they are more the victims of the violence in these stories, or more and more as authors of it., she adds.
