US Special Forces and Chinook helicopters swept into evacuate about 70 American diplomats and government workers. France began a rapid evacuation operation, and said that European citizens and those from allied partner countries would also be assisted. Swedes have approved a proposal to send up to 400 soldiers in to help get people out. And the UK had sent in Special Forces units to get government workers and diplomats out.
