The Role of the Coast Guard in Sexual Disruption
Claims of sexual assault at sea rarely make it all the way to the Coast Guard. Some mariners aren't even aware that option is available to them. In those rare cases where actions have been taken, sanctions have been very minimal. The Coast Guard couldn't point us to a single successful prosecution of a mariner for sex crime in 30 years.
