Deapity is a concept invented by the philosopher Daniel Dennett. It refers to a phrase that seems true and profound on its face but is in fact vacuous and shallow. The classic example is the phrase love is just a word, which has two possible interpretations. On one interpretation it could mean there is no such emotion as love or everyone who thinks they felt it was either self-deceived - both are false.
