The coalition government of chancellor muller collapsed when stresaman's party, the german people's party, pulled out in a squabble over austerity measures. Muller would be the last social democratic party chancellor in germany until 19 69. The new chancellor, heinrich bruning, led a minority coalition that did not include the social democrats. This suited president hindenburg just fine. Hindenberg and his advisers played a complicated game here. He wanted less power in the hands of the reichtag and more in those of the president.
