In your book, Braiding Sweetgrass, there's this line, it came to me while picking beans, the secret of happiness. And you talk about gardening, which is actually something that many people do and I think more people are doing. As the earth loves us back in beans and corn and strawberries, food could taste bad, it could be bland and boring, but it isn't. They're these wonderful gifts that the plant beings to my mind have shared with us. It's a really liberating idea to think that the earth could love us back; it opens the notion of reciprocity from the earth comes a real deep responsibility.
