People who have depression or anxiety are quicker to notice and then at times can fixate on the things that are the source of that depression, anxiety or the phobia. Concretely people who are spider phobics, if you show them photographs of different environments they orient really quickly to where those spiders are. So there is some work suggesting supporting what you're saying that are maybe our negative states that we may not wish that we have are changing our visual experience. That feedback feeds back in to reifying or supporting our belief that we live in a sad, dangerous world.
