The Chaos of the Civil War
There was a massive stinking mess on the Gettysburg battlefield, which covered 25 square miles. Northern commanders varied; they did have a quite large core of medics. Confederate soldiers wrote their names on a piece of cloth and pinned it to their uniform because they knew they were going to die. When you found a casualty, all you could tell was which side were they on.
