Family Court Judges Are Having to Deal With the Emotional Fall Out
The proliferation of unrepresented litigante in person in the family courts only makes an overstretched system even more strained. The capacity is reduced because of the time that is needed to assist a litigant in person to appreciate the issues that must be considered, as well as dealing with the emotional fall out. Expecting him to be able to control his emotions and behave in a calm, rational way within a court room is probably expecting too much. And so that one hour time estimate becomes a two hour hearing ends with the inevitable knock-on effect.
