Carontius's Revolt - The Last Straw for Britannia
Constantine's son, Constance, dismissed Carontius from his post. But there's a problem with orders like that: They rely on the recipient to abate them. And Carontius really didn't feel like stepping down. He picked a puppet emperor, Maximus, and tried to usurp the empire. Meanwhile in Gaul, the Burgundians were moving in and settling along the Rhine frontier. We had almost no defenders. Our supposed emperor was closer to the Mediterranean than us. And now he couldn't even hold his own territory.
