When Rosa was 18, she met Raymond Parks. He worked for Montgomery's first branch of the NAACP. She admired his courage to speak so openly about racial matters. From 1886 to 1968, approximately 4,743 lynchings occurred in the U.S. Most of the hangings were done by the KKK.
