In 1960, a group of black activists and intellectuals from America took a trip to Cuba. Joe Kay: The first thing that struck me was the absolute delirium of the people. We saw we were in a stadium with Fidel in the Oriental province where Cuban peasants were riding up on forceback; they were breaking ground for the construction of schools.
