The Importance of Comprehension
A lot of times students don't see the humor. So they're reading words without understanding that humor is involved. The second thing I do is give my students a real reason for doing something. And then finally, I use the iPhone. This thing. Record the student doing it so that they can send it on to parents and grandparents so that they are proud of what they are doing. But everything I do is comprehension based. It goes back to me growing up reading words and recognizing there was a significant problem that I had that no one picked up on. That we have to teach children to do that search for meaning right from the moment I start with early words.
