The Importance of Excellence in Poetry
I think there's objective varieties of excellence, but I also understand that every game has an objective winner. So the rules by which we recognize who the winner is, right? And those rules prevail even in poetry. Now, it's not, not necessary to like every game. I don't fault people for having discernment, but I might fault them for having the idea that because of what they prefer orBecause of what they dislike, it makes them a better person. That somehow they can then lavish upon themselves some cloak of superiority and moral conviction.
