The Perverse Incentives of Elite Overproduction

In a normal society you're going to have what's called a circulation of elites. What we ended up with was kind of this system of perverse incentives when it comes to a production of elites so at first we had a variety of different ways that one could kind of enter the elite structure. After World War II we get the GI bill and we've kind of conquered the world in a lot of ways and you don't really need as many varied types of elites. We funnel everything through the college system and all of a sudden college becomes like this gateway to the middle and upper classes for people who came from other classes.
