The History of SDD in Critical Care
I want to echo Marion's comments of thanks to Rob for bringing us back together in this extraordinary environment. SDD is one of the most studied interventions in intensive care. It has been the subject of 88 randomized control trials up until this time, 27 meta analyses. And I think it's important to interpret SDD not just through the lens of infection prophylaxis, but microbiome protection in critically ill patients. The model that they came up with was based on four key principles; you would selectively eliminate gram negative aerobic organisms and fungi.
